Прва књига о царевима (која се зове и Трећа књига о царевима )

А Вен-Адад цар Сирски скупи војску своју, и имаше са собом тридесет и два цара, и коње и кола; и отишавши опколи Самарију и стаде је бити.

And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and [there were] thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

И посла посланике к Ахаву цару Израиљеву у град,

And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

И поручи му: овако вели Вен-Адад: сребро твоје и злато твоје моје је, тако и жене твоје и твоји лијепи синови моји су.

Thy silver and thy gold [is] mine; thy wives also and thy children, [even] the goodliest, [are] mine.

А цар Израиљев одговори и рече: као што си рекао, господару мој царе, ја сам твој и све што имам.

And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I [am] thine, and all that I have.

А посланици опет дођоше и рекоше: овако вели Вен-Адад: послао сам к теби и поручио: сребро своје и злато своје и жене своје и синове своје да ми даш.

And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

Зато ћу сјутра у ово доба послати слуге своје к теби да прегледају кућу твоју и куће слуга твојих, и што ти је год мило, они ће узети и однијети.

Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, [that] whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put [it] in their hand, and take [it] away.

Тада дозва цар Израиљев све старјешине земаљске и рече: гледајте и видите како овај тражи зло; јер посла к мени по мене и по синове моје и по сребро моје и по злато моје, и ја му не браних.

Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this [man] seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

А све старјешине и сав народ рекоше му: не слушај га и не пристај.

And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not [unto him], nor consent.

И рече посланицима Вен-Ададовијем: кажите цару господару мојему: што си прво поручио слузи својему све ћу учинити; али ово не могу учинити. Тако отидоше посланици и однесоше му тај одговор.

Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

А Вен-Адад посла к њему и поручи: тако да ми учине богови и тако додаду! неће бити доста праха од Самарије да свему народу који иде за мном допадне по једна грст.

And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

А цар Израиљев одговори и рече: кажите: нека се не хвали онај који се опасује као онај који се распасује.

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell [him], Let not him that girdeth on [his harness] boast himself as he that putteth it off.

А кад он то чу пијући с царевима под шаторима, рече слугама својим: дижите се. И дигоше се на град.

And it came to pass, when [Benhadad] heard this message, as he [was] drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set [yourselves in array]. And they set [themselves in array] against the city.

Тада гле, приступи један пророк к Ахаву цару Израиљеву, и рече: овако вели Господ: видиш ли све ово мноштво? ево, ја ћу ти га дати у руке данас да познаш да сам ја Господ.

And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I [am] the LORD.

А Ахав рече: преко кога? А он рече: овако вели Господ: преко момака кнезова земаљских. Опет рече: ко ће заметнути бој? А он рече: ти.

And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, [Even] by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.

Тада преброји момке кнезова земаљских, и бјеше их двјеста и тридесет и два; послије њих преброја сав народ, све синове Израиљеве, и бјеше их седам тисућа.

Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, [even] all the children of Israel, [being] seven thousand.

И изидоше у подне; а Вен-Адад пијући опи се у шаторима с тридесет и два цара који му дођоше у помоћ.

And they went out at noon. But Benhadad [was] drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

И изидоше прво момци кнезова земаљских; а Вен-Адад посла, и јавише му и рекоше: изидоше људи из Самарије.

And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

А он рече: ако су изашли мира ради, похватајте их живе; ако су изашли на бој, похватајте их живе.

And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

И изидоше из града момци кнезова земаљских, и војска за њима.

So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

И сваки уби с којим се сукоби, те Сирци побјегоше а Израиљци их потјераше. И Вен-Адад цар Сирски побјеже на коњу с коњицима.

And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

И цар Израиљев изиде и поби коње и кола, и учини велик покољ међу Сирцима.

And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

Потом дође пророк к цару Израиљеву и рече му: иди, буди храбар; и промисли и види шта ћеш чинити, јер ће до године опет доћи цар Сирски на те.

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

А цару Сирском рекоше слуге његове: њихови су богови горски богови, зато нас надјачаше; него да се бијемо с њима у пољу, зацијело ћемо их надјачати.

And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods [are] gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

Учини дакле овако: уклони те цареве с мјеста њиховијех, и постави војводе мјесто њих.

And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

Па скупи војску каква је била она која ти је изгинула, и коње какви су били они коњи, и кола као она кола; па да се побијемо с њима у пољу; зацијело ћемо их надјачати. И послуша их, и учини тако.

And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, [and] surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

А кад прође година, Вен-Адад преброји Сирце, и пође у Афек да војује на Израиља.

And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

И синови Израиљеви пребројише се, и понесавши хране изидоше пред њих. И стадоше у око синови Израиљеви према њима, као два мала стада коза, а Сирци бијаху прекрилили земљу.

And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

Тада дође човјек Божји, и проговори цару Израиљеву и рече: овако вели Господ: што Сирци рекоше да је Господ горски Бог а није Бог пољски, зато ћу ти дати у руке све ово мноштво велико да знате да сам ја Господ.

And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD [is] God of the hills, but he [is] not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.

И стајаху у околу једни према другима седам дана; а седмога дана побише се, и синови Израиљеви побише Сираца сто тисућа пјешака у један дан.

And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And [so] it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

А остали побјегоше у град Афек, и паде зид на двадесет и седам тисућа људи који бијаху остали. И Вен-Адад побјегав у град уђе у најтајнију клијет.

But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and [there] a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men [that were] left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

А слуге му рекоше: ево чули смо да су цареви дома Израиљева милостиви цареви; да вежемо костријет око себе и да метнемо узице себи око вратова, па да изидемо пред цара Израиљева, да ако остави у животу душу твоју.

And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel [are] merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

И везаше костријет око себе, и метнуше узице себи око вратова, и дођоше к цару Израиљеву и рекоше: слуга твој Вен-Адад вели: остави у животу душу моју. А он рече: је ли још жив? брат ми је.

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and [put] ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, [Is] he yet alive? he [is] my brother.

А људи узеше то за добар знак, и одмах да би га ухватили за ријеч рекоше: брат је твој Вен-Адад. А он рече: идите, доведите га. Тада Вен-Адад изиде к њему; а он га посади на своја кола.

Now the men did diligently observe whether [any thing would come] from him, and did hastily catch [it]: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

Тада му рече Вен-Адад: градове које је узео отац мој твоме оцу, вратићу, и начини себи улице у Дамаску као што је отац мој учинио у Самарији. А он одговори: с том вјером отпустићу те. И учини вјеру с њим, и отпусти га.

And [Benhadad] said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then [said Ahab], I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

Тада један између синова пророчких рече другоме по ријечи Господњој: биј ме. Али га онај не хтје бити.

And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

А он му рече: што не послуша гласа Господњега, зато, ево кад отидеш од мене, лав ће те заклати. И кад отиде од њега, сукоби га лав и закла га.

Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

Опет нашав другога рече му: биј ме. А онај га изби и израни га.

Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded [him].

Тада отиде пророк и стаде на пут куда ће цар проћи, и нагрди се пепелом по лицу.

So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

А кад цар пролажаше, он викну цара и рече: твој слуга бијаше изашао у бој, а један дошавши доведе ми човјека и рече: чувај овога човјека; ако ли га нестане, биће твоја душа за његову душу, или ћеш платити таланат сребра.

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

А кад твој слуга имаше посла тамо амо, њега неста. Тада му рече цар Израиљев: то ти је суд, сам си отсудио.

And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So [shall] thy judgment [be]; thyself hast decided [it].

А он брже убриса пепео с лица, и цар Израиљев позна га да је један од пророка.

And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he [was] of the prophets.

А он му рече: овако вели Господ: што си пустио из руку човјека којега сам ја осудио да се истријеби, душа ће твоја бити за његову душу и народ твој за његов народ.

And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of [thy] hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

И отиде цар Израиљев кући својој зловољан и љутит, и дође у Самарију.

And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
