Књига о Јову

Чуј дакле, Јове, бесједу моју, и слушај све ријечи моје.

Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

Ево, сад отварам уста своја; говори језик мој у устима мојим.

Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

По правом срцу мом биће ријечи моје, и мисао чисту изрећи ће усне моје.

My words [shall be of] the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

Дух Божји створио ме је, и дах Свемогућега дао ми је живот.

The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Ако можеш, одговори ми, приправи се и стани ми насупрот.

If thou canst answer me, set [thy words] in order before me, stand up.

Ево, ја ћу бити мјесто Бога, као што си рекао; од кала сам начињен и ја.

Behold, I [am] according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

Ето, страх мој неће те страшити, и рука моја неће те тиштати.

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

Рекао си дакле преда мном, и чуо сам глас твојих ријечи:

Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words, [saying],

Чист сам, без гријеха, прав сам и нема безакоња на мени.

I am clean without transgression, I [am] innocent; neither [is there] iniquity in me.

Ево, тражи задјевицу са мном, држи ме за свога непријатеља.

Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

Меће у кладе ноге моје, вреба по свијем стазама мојим.

He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

Ето, у том нијеси праведан, одговарам ти; јер је Бог већи од човјека.

Behold, [in] this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

Зашто се преш с њим, што за сва дјела своја не одговара?

Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

Једанпут говори Бог и два пута; али човјек не пази.

For God speaketh once, yea twice, [yet man] perceiveth it not.

У сну, у утвари ноћној, кад тврд сан падне на људе, кад спавају у постељи,

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

Тада отвора ухо људима и науку им запечаћава,

Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

Да би одвратио човјека од дјела његова, и заклонио од њега охолост;

That he may withdraw man [from his] purpose, and hide pride from man.

Да би сачувао душу његову од јаме, и живот његов да не наиђе на мач.

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

И кара га боловима на постељи његовој, и све кости његове тешком болешћу.

He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain]:

Тако да се животу његову гади хљеб и души његовој јело најмилије;

So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

Нестаје тијела његова на очиглед, и измалају се кости његове, које се прије нијесу видјеле,

His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones [that] were not seen stick out.

И душа се његова приближава гробу, и живот његов смрти.

Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

Ако има гласника, тумача, једнога од тисуће, који би казао човјеку дужност његову,

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

Тада ће се смиловати на њ, и рећи ће: избави га да не отиде у гроб; нашао сам откуп.

Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

И подмладиће се тијело његово као у дјетета, и повратиће се на дане младости своје,

His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

Молиће се Богу, и помиловаће га, и гледаће лице његово радујући се, и вратиће човјеку по правди његовој.

He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

Гледајући људи рећи ће: бијах згријешио, и што је право изврнуо, али ми не поможе.

He looketh upon men, and [if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted [that which was] right, and it profited me not;

Он избави душу моју да не отиде у јаму, и живот мој да гледа свјетлост.

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

Гле, све ово чини Бог два пута и три пута човјеку,

Lo, all these [things] worketh God oftentimes with man,

Да би повратио душу његову од јаме, да би га обасјавала свјетлост живијех.

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

Пази, Јове, слушај ме, мучи, да ја говорим.

Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

Ако имаш што рећи, одговори ми; говори, јер сам те рад оправдати;

If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

Ако ли не, слушај ти мене; мучи, и научићу те мудрости.

If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
