Ловиш ли ти лаву лов? и лавићима трбух пуниш,

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

Кад леже у пећинама и вребају у заклону свом?

When they couch in [their] dens, [and] abide in the covert to lie in wait?

Ко готови гаврану храну његову кад птићи његови вичу к Богу и лутају немајући шта јести?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

Знаш ли вријеме кад се дивокозе козе? и јеси ли видио кад се кошуте легу?

Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

Јеси ли избројио мјесеце, докле носе? знаш ли вријеме кад се легу?

Canst thou number the months [that] they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

Како се савијају, млад своју испуштају, и опраштају се болова?

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

Како јача млад њихова, расте по пољу и отишавши не враћа се к њима?

Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

Ко је пустио дивљега магарца да је слободан, и ремене дивљему магарцу ко је раздријешио?

Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

Којему одредих пустињу за кућу и за стан слатину.

Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

Он се смије вреви градској, и не слуша вике настојникове.

He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

Шта налази у горама, оно му је пића, и тражи сваку зелен.

The range of the mountains [is] his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

Би ли ти једнорог хтио служити? би ли ноћивао за јаслама твојим?

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Можеш ли везати ужем једнорога да оре? хоће ли влачити бразде за тобом?

Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

Хоћеш ли се ослонити на њ што му је снага велика? и оставити на њему свој посао?

Wilt thou trust him, because his strength [is] great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

Хоћеш ли се поуздати у њ да ће ти свести љетину и на гумно твоје сложити?

Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather [it into] thy barn?

Јеси ли ти дао пауну лијепа крила и перје чапљи или ноју?

[Gavest thou] the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

Који снесе на земљи јајца своја, и остави их да их прах грије?

Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

И не мисли да ће их нога разбити и звијер пољска згазити;

And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

Немилостив је птићима својим као да нијесу његови, и да му труд не буде узалуд не боји се.

She is hardened against her young ones, as though [they were] not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

Јер му Бог није дао мудрост нити му је удијелио разума.

Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

Кад се подигне у вис, смије се коњу и коњику.

What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

Јеси ли ти дао коњу јачину? јеси ли ти окитио врат његов рзањем?

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

Хоћеш ли га поплашити као скакавца? фркање ноздрва његовијех страшно је;

Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils [is] terrible.

Копа земљу, весео је од силе, иде на сусрет оружју;

He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

Смије се страху и не плаши се нити узмиче испред мача;

He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

Кад звекће над њим тул и сијева копље и сулица;

The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

Од немирноће и љутине копа земљу, и не може да стоји кад труба затруби.

He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet.

Кад труба затруби, он вришти, издалека чује бој, вику војвода и поклич.

He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Еда ли по твојему разуму лети јастријеб? шири крила своја на југ?

Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings toward the south?

Еда ли се на твоју заповијест диже у вис орао, и на висини вије гнијездо?

Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

На стијени станује и бави се, на врх стијене, на тврду мјесту.

She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

Одатле гледа хране, далеко му виде очи.

From thence she seeketh the prey, [and] her eyes behold afar off.

И птићи његови пију крв, и гдје су мртва тјелеса ондје је он.

Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain [are], there [is] she.

И тако одговарајући Господ Јову рече:

Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

Ко се препире с Богом, хоће ли га учити? који куди Бога, нека одговори на то.

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

Тада Јов одговори Господу и рече:

Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

Гле, ја сам мален, шта бих ти одговорио? Мећем руку своју на уста своја.

Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

Једном говорих, али нећу одговарати; и другом, али нећу више.

Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
