Од мртвијех муха усмрди се и поквари уље апотекарско, тако од мало лудости цијена мудрости и слави.

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: [so doth] a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom [and] honour.

Срце је мудрому с десне стране, а лудом је с лијеве стране.

A wise man's heart [is] at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.

Безумник и кад иде путем, без разума је и казује свјема да је безуман.

Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth [him], and he saith to every one [that] he [is] a fool.

Ако се подигне на те гњев онога који влада, не остављај мјеста својега, јер благост уклања велике гријехе.

If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

Има зло које видјех под сунцем, као погрјешка која долази од владаоца:

There is an evil [which] I have seen under the sun, as an error [which] proceedeth from the ruler:

Лудост се посађује на највише мјесто, и богати сједе на ниском мјесту.

Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

Видјех слуге на коњима, а кнезови иду пјешице као слуге.

I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

Ко јаму копа, у њу ће пасти, и ко разваљује ограду, ујешће га змија.

He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

Ко одмиче камење, удариће се о њих; ко цијепа дрва, није миран од њих.

Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; [and] he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.

Кад се затупи гвожђе и оштрице му се не наоштри, тада треба више снаге; али мудрост може боље оправити.

If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom [is] profitable to direct.

Ако уједе змија прије бајања, ништа неће помоћи бајач.

Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

Ријечи из уста мудрога љупке су, а безумнога прождиру усне његове.

The words of a wise man's mouth [are] gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

Почетак је ријечима уста његовијех лудост, а свршетак говору његову зло безумље.

The beginning of the words of his mouth [is] foolishness: and the end of his talk [is] mischievous madness.

Јер луди много говори, а човјек не зна што ће бити; и ко ће му казати што ће послије њега бити?

A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

Луде мори труд њихов, јер не знају ни у град отићи.

The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

Тешко теби, земљо, кад ти је цар дијете и кнезови твоји рано једу!

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king [is] a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

Благо теби, земљо, кад ти је цар племенит и кнезови твоји једу на вријеме да се поткријепе а не да се опију.

Blessed [art] thou, O land, when thy king [is] the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

С лијености угибље се кров и с немарнијех руку прокапљује кућа.

By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Ради весеља готове се гозбе, и вино весели живе, а новци врше све.

A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all [things].

Ни у мисли својој не псуј цара, ни у клијети, у којој спаваш, не псуј богатога, јер птица небеска однијеће глас и што крила има доказаће ријеч.

Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
