Опет видјех све неправде које се чине под сунцем, и гле, сузе онијех којима се чини неправда, и немају ко би их потјешио ни снаге да се избаве из руку онијех који им чине неправду; немају никога да их потјеши.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of [such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors [there was] power; but they had no comforter.

Зато хвалих мртве који већ помријеше више него живе који још живе.

Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.

Али је бољи и од једнијех и од другијех онај који још није постао, који није видио зла што бива под сунцем.

Yea, better [is he] than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

Јер видјех сваки труд и свако добро дјело да од њега бива завист човјеку од ближњега његова. И то је таштина и мука духу.

Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This [is] also vanity and vexation of spirit.

Безумник склапа руке своје, и једе своје тијело.

The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.

Боља је једна грст у миру него обје грсти с трудом и муком у духу.

Better [is] an handful [with] quietness, than both the hands full [with] travail and vexation of spirit.

Опет видјех таштину под сунцем:

Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.

Има ко је сам, инокосан, нема ни сина ни брата, и опет нема краја труду његову, и очи његове не могу да се насите богатства; а не мисли: за кога се мучим и одузимам својој души добра? И то је таштина и зао посао.

There is one [alone], and [there is] not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet [is there] no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither [saith he], For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This [is] also vanity, yea, it [is] a sore travail.

Боље је двојици него једному, јер имају добру добит од свога труда.

Two [are] better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

Јер ако један падне, други ће подигнути друга својега; а тешко једному! ако падне, нема другога да га подигне.

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him [that is] alone when he falleth; for [he hath] not another to help him up.

Јоште ако двојица спавају заједно, грије један другога; а један како ће се згријати?

Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm [alone]?

И ако би ко надјачао једнога, двојица ће му одољети; и трострука врвца не кида се лако.

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Боље је дијете убого а мудро него цар стар а безуман, који се већ не зна поучити.

Better [is] a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

Јер један излази из тамнице да царује, а други који се роди да царује осиромаши.

For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also [he that is] born in his kingdom becometh poor.

Видјех све живе који ходе под сунцем гдје пристају за дјететом другим, које ће ступити на његово мјесто.

I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.

Нема краја народу који бијаше пред њим, а који послије настану неће се радовати њему. И то је таштина и мука духу.

[There is] no end of all the people, [even] of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
