Цар Навуходоносор свијем народима, племенима и језицима што су по свој земљи, мир да вам се умножи.

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

Свидје ми се да објавим знаке и чудеса што ми учини Бог вишњи.

I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

Знаци његови како су велики! и чудеса његова како су силна! царство је његово царство вјечно, и власт његова од кољена до кољена.

How great [are] his signs! and how mighty [are] his wonders! his kingdom [is] an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion [is] from generation to generation.

Ја Навуходоносор бијах миран у кући својој и цватијах у двору свом.

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

Усних сан, који ме уплаши, и мисли на постељи мојој и утваре главе моје узнемирише ме.

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

И заповједих да се доведу преда ме сви мудраци Вавилонски да ми кажу што значи сан.

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise [men] of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

Тада дођоше врачари, звјездари, Халдеји и гатари, и приповједих им сан, али ми не могоше казати што значи.

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

Најпослије дође преда ме Данило, који се зове Валтасар по имену бога мојега, и у ком је дух светијех богова, и приповједих му сан:

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom [is] the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, [saying],

Валтасаре, поглаваре врачарима, знам да је дух светијех богова у теби и никака тајна није ти тешка; кажи сан мој што сам снио и што значи.

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods [is] in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

А утвара главе моје на постељи мојој бјеше: видјех, гле, дрво усред земље, и висина му велика.

Thus [were] the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof [was] great.

Дрво бјеше велико и јако, и висина му досезаше до неба, и виђаше се до краја све земље.

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

Лишће му бјеше лијепо и род обилат, и на њему бјеше хране свему; звијерје пољско одмараше се у хладу његову, и на гранама његовијем становаху птице небеске, и од њега се храњаше свако тијело.

The leaves thereof [were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it [was] meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

Видјех у утварама главе своје на постељи својој, и гле, стражар и светац сиђе с неба.

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

Повика јако и рече овако: посијеците дрво, и окрешите му гране, покидајте му лишће и разметните му род; нека побјегну звијери испод њега и птице с грана његовијех.

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

Али пањ са жилама оставите му у земљи, у оковима гвозденијем и мједенијем у трави пољској, нека га кваси роса небеска и дио да му је са звијерјем од траве земаљске.

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and [let] his portion [be] with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

Срце човјечје нека му се промијени, и срце животињско нека му се да, и седам времена нека прође преко њега.

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

То су одредили стражари и изрекли свети да би познали живи да вишњи влада царством људским, и даје га коме хоће, и поставља над њим најнижега између људи.

This matter [is] by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Тај сан сних ја цар Навуходоносор; а ти, Валтасаре, кажи што значи, јер ни један мудрац у царству мом не може да ми каже што значи; а ти можеш, јер је у теби дух светијех богова.

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise [men] of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou [art] able; for the spirit of the holy gods [is] in thee.

Тада Данило, који се зваше Валтасар, оста у чуду за један сахат, и мисли га узнемираваху. А цар проговори и рече: Валтасаре, сан и значење му да те не узнемирује. А Валтасар одговори и рече: господару мој, сан да буде твојим ненавидницима, и значење његово непријатељима твојим.

Then Daniel, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream [be] to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

Дрво што си видио, велико и јако, којему висина досезаше до неба и које се виђаше по свој земљи,

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

Којему лишће бјеше лијепо и род обилан, и на ком бјеше хране свему, под којим становаше звијерје пољско и на гранама му сјеђаху птице небеске,

Whose leaves [were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it [was] meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

То си ти, царе, који си велик и силан, и величина је твоја висока и досеже до неба и власт твоја до крајева земаљских.

It [is] thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

А што цар видје стражара и свеца гдје слажаше с неба и говораше: посијеците дрво и потрите га, али му пањ са жилама оставите у земљи у оковима гвозденијем и мједенијем у трави пољској, да га кваси роса небеска, и са звијерјем пољским нека му је дио докле седам времена прође преко њега,

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and [let] his portion [be] with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

Ово значи, царе, и ово је наредба вишњега која ће се извршити на мом господару цару:

This [is] the interpretation, O king, and this [is] the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

Бићеш прогнан између људи, и са звијерима ћеш пољским живјети, и храниће те травом као говеда, и роса ће те небеска квасити, и седам ће времена проћи преко тебе докле познаш да вишњи влада царством људским и даје га коме хоће.

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

А што се рече да се остави пањ са жилама од дрвета, царство ће ти остати, кад познаш да небеса владају.

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

Зато, царе, да ти је угодан мој свјет, опрости се гријеха својих правдом, и безакоња својих милошћу према невољнима, еда би ти се продуљио мир.

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

Све ово дође на цара Навуходоносора.

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

Послије дванаест мјесеца ходаше по царском двору у Вавилону.

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

И проговори цар и рече: није ли то Вавилон велики што га ја сазидах јаком силом својом да је столица царска и слава величанству мојему?

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

Те ријечи још бјеху у устима цару, а глас дође с неба: теби се говори, царе Навуходоносоре: царство се узе од тебе.

While the word [was] in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, [saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

И бићеш прогнан између људи, и живјећеш са звијерјем пољским, храниће те травом као говеда, и седам ће времена проћи преко тебе докле познаш да вишњи влада царством људским и даје га коме хоће.

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling [shall be] with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

У тај час испуни се та ријеч на Навуходоносору; и би прогнан између људи и једе траву као говеда, и роса небеска кваси му тијело да му нарастоше длаке као пера у орла и нокти као у птица.

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' [feathers], and his nails like birds' [claws].

Али послије тога времена ја Навуходоносор подигох очи своје к небу, и ум мој врати ми се, и благослових вишњега, и хвалих и славих онога који живи довијека, чија је власт власт вјечна и чије је царство од кољена до кољена;

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom [is] from generation to generation:

И сви становници земаљски ништа нијесу према њему, и ради што хоће с војском небеском и са становницима земаљским, и нема никога да би му руку уставио и рекао му: шта радиш?

And all the inhabitants of the earth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and [among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

У то вријеме ум мој врати ми се, и на славу царстава мојега врати ми се величанство моје и свјетлост моја; и дворани моји и кнезови моји потражише ме, и утврдих се у царству свом, и дода ми се више величанства.

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

Сада ја Навуходоносор хвалим, узвишујем и славим цара небескога, чија су сва дјела истина и чији су путови праведни и који може оборити оне који ходе поносито.

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works [are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
