Дјела светијех апостола (Писао их свети апостол и јеванђелиста Лука )

А Павле погледавши на скупштину рече: људи браћо! ја са свом добром савјести живљех пред Богом до самога овог дана.

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men [and] brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

А поглавар свештенички Ананија заповједи онима што стајаху код њега да га бију по устима.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

Тада му рече Павле: тебе ће Бог бити, зиде окречени! И ти сједиш те ми судиш по закону, а преступајући закон заповиједаш да ме бију.

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, [thou] whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

А они што стојаху наоколо рекоше: зар псујеш Божијег поглавара свештеничкога?

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

А Павле рече: не знадох, браћо, да је поглавар свештенички, јер стоји написано: старјешини народа својега да не говориш ружно.

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

А знајући Павле да је један дио садукеја а други фарисеја повика на скупштини: људи браћо! ја сам фарисеј и син фарисејев: за над и за васкрсеније из мртвијех доведен сам на суд.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men [and] brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

А кад он ово рече, постаде распра међу садукејима и фарисејима, и раздијели се народ.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

Јер садукеји говоре да нема васкрсенија, ни анђела ни духа; а фарисеји признају обоје.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

И постаде велика вика, и уставши књижевници од стране фарисејске препираху се међу собом говорећи: никакво зло не налазимо на овоме човјеку; ако ли му говори дух или анђео, да се не супротимо Богу.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes [that were] of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

А кад поста распра велика, побојавши се војвода да Павла не раскину, заповједи да сиђу војници и да га отму између њих, и да га одведу у око.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring [him] into the castle.

А ону ноћ стаде Господ преда њега и рече: не бој се, Павле, јер као што си свједочио за мене у Јерусалиму, тако ти ваља и у Риму свједочити.

And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

А кад би дан, учинише неки од Јевреја вијећу и заклеше се говорећи да неће ни јести ни пити докле не убију Павла.

And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

А бјеше их више од четрдесет који ову клетву учинише.

And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

Ови приступивши ка главарима свештеничкијем и старјешинама, рекоше: клетвом заклесмо се да нећемо ништа окусити док не убијемо Павла;

And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

Сад дакле ви са сабором кажите војводи да га сјутра сведе к вама, као да бисте хтјели дознати боље за њега; а ми смо готови да га убијемо прије него се он приближи.

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

А син сестре Павлове чувши ову засједу дође и уђе у око и каза Павлу.

And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

А Павле дозвавши једнога од капетана рече: ово момче одведи к војводи, јер има нешто да му каже.

Then Paul called one of the centurions unto [him], and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

А он га узе и доведе к војводи, и рече: сужањ Павле дозва ме и замоли да ово момче доведем к теби које има нешто да ти говори.

So he took him, and brought [him] to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto [him], and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

А војвода узевши га за руку, и отишавши насамо, питаше га: шта је што имаш да ми кажеш?

Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went [with him] aside privately, and asked [him], What is that thou hast to tell me?

А оно рече: Јевреји договорише се да те замоле да сјутра сведеш Павла к њима на скупштину, као да би хтјели боље испитати за њега;

And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

Али ти их немој послушати, јер га чекају од њих више од четрдесет људи који су се заклели да неће ни јести ни пити докле га не убију; и сад су готови, и чекају твоје обећање.

But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

А војвода онда отпусти момче заповједивши му: ником не казуј да си ми ово јавио.

So the chief captain [then] let the young man depart, and charged [him, See thou] tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

И дозвавши двојицу од капетана рече: приправите ми двјеста војника да иду до Ћесарије, и седамдесет коњика и двјеста стријелаца, по трећему сахату ноћи.

And he called unto [him] two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

И нека доведу коње да посаде Павла, и да га прате до Филикса судије.

And provide [them] beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring [him] safe unto Felix the governor.

И написа посланицу у којој овако говораше:

And he wrote a letter after this manner:

Од Клаудија Лисије честитоме Филиксу поздравље.

Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix [sendeth] greeting.

Човјека овога ухватише Јевреји и шћаху да га убију; ја пак дођох с војницима и отех га дознавши да је Римљанин.

This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

И желећи дознати узрок за који га криве сведох га на њихову скупштину.

And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

Тада нађох да га криве за питања закона њихова, а да нема никакве кривице која заслужује смрт или окове.

Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

И дознавши ја уговор Јеврејски о глави овога човјека одмах га послах к теби заповједивши и супарницима његовијем да пред тобом кажу што имају на њ. Здрав буди!

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what [they had] against him. Farewell.

А војници онда, као што им се заповједи, узеше Павла и одведоше га ноћу у Антипатриду.

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought [him] by night to Antipatris.

А сјутрадан оставивши коњике да иду с њим, вратише се у око.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

А они дошавши у Ћесарију, предаше посланицу судији и изведоше Павла преда њ.

Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

А судија прочитавши посланицу запита одакле је; и дознавши да је из Киликије

And when the governor had read [the letter], he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that [he was] of Cilicia;

Рече: испитаћу те кад супарници твоји дођу. И заповједи да га чувају у двору Иродовом.

I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
