Прва књига Самуилова (која се зове и Прва књига о царевима )

И Саул говори Јонатану сину својему и свијем слугама својим да убију Давида; али Јонатан син Саулов љубљаше веома Давида.

And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

И јави Јонатан Давиду и рече му: Саул отац мој тражи да те убије; него се чувај сјутра, склони се гдјегод и прикриј се.

But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret [place], and hide thyself:

А ја ћу изаћи и стајаћу поред оца својега у пољу гдје ти будеш, и говорићу о теби с оцем својим, и што дознам јавићу ти.

And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou [art], and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

И Јонатан проговори за Давида Саулу оцу својему, и рече му: да се не огријеши цар о слугу својега Давида, јер се он није огријешио о тебе, него је још врло добро за те што је чинио.

And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works [have been] to thee-ward very good:

Јер није марио за живот свој и побио је Филистеје, и Господ учини спасење велико свему Израиљу; видио си и радовао си се; па зашто би се огријешио о крв праву и убио Давида ни за што?

For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest [it], and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

И послуша Саул Јонатана, и закле се Саул: тако жив био Господ, неће погинути.

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, [As] the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

Тада Јонатан дозва Давида, и каза му Јонатан све ово; и доведе Јонатан Давида к Саулу, и опет би пред њим као пређе.

And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

И наста опет рат, и Давид изиде и поби се с Филистејима, и разби их веома, те бјежаше од њега.

And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

Потом зли дух Господњи нападе Саула кад сјеђаше код куће и држаше копље у руци, а Давид удараше руком о гусле.

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with [his] hand.

И Саул шћаше Давида копљем приковати за зид, али се он измаче Саулу, те копље удари у зид, а Давид побјеже и избави се ону ноћ.

And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

А Саул посла људе ка кући Давидовој да га чувају и ујутру убију. А то јави Давиду жена његова Михала говорећи: ако ноћас не избавиш душе своје, ујутру ћеш погинути.

Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

Тада Михала спусти Давида кроз прозор, те отиде и побјеже и избави се.

So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

А Михала узе лик, и метну га у постељу, и метну му под главу узглавље од костријети, и покри га хаљином.

And Michal took an image, and laid [it] in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] for his bolster, and covered [it] with a cloth.

И кад Саул посла људе да ухвате Давида, она рече: болестан је.

And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He [is] sick.

А Саул посла опет људе да виде Давида говорећи: донесите ми га у постељи да га погубим.

And Saul sent the messengers [again] to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

А кад дођоше послани, гле, лик у постељи и узглавље од костријети под главом му.

And when the messengers were come in, behold, [there was] an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' [hair] for his bolster.

И рече Саул Михали: што ме тако превари и пусти непријатеља мојега да утече? А Михала рече Саулу: он ми рече: пусти ме, или ћу те убити.

And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

Тако Давид утече и избави се, и дође к Самуилу у Раму, и приповједи му све што му је учинио Саул. И отидоше он и Самуило, и осташе у Најоту.

So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

А Саулу дође глас и рекоше му: ено Давида у Најоту у Рами.

And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David [is] at Naioth in Ramah.

Тада посла Саул људе да ухвате Давида; и они видјеше збор пророка гдје пророкују а Самуило им старјешина. И дух Господњи дође на посланике Саулове, те и они пророковаху.

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing [as] appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

А кад то јавише Саулу, он посла друге посланике, али и они пророковаху; те Саул опет посла треће посланике, али и они пророковаху.

And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

Тада сам пође у Раму, и кад дође на велики студенац који је у Сокоту, запита говорећи: гдје је Самуило и Давид? И рекоше му: ено их у Најоту у Рами.

Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that [is] in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where [are] Samuel and David? And [one] said, Behold, [they be] at Naioth in Ramah.

И пође у Најот у Рами; али и на њега сиђе дух Божји, те идући даље пророковаше докле дође у Најот у Рами.

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Па скиде и он хаљине своје са себе, и пророкова и он пред Самуилом, и паднувши лежаше го цео онај дан и сву ноћ. Стога се говори: еда ли је и Саул међу пророцима?

And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, [Is] Saul also among the prophets?
