Прва књига Самуилова (која се зове и Прва књига о царевима )

А дијете Самуило служаше Господу пред Илијем; и ријеч Господња бјеше ријетка у оно вријеме, и не јављаху се утваре.

And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; [there was] no open vision.

Једном у то вријеме Илије лежаше на свом мјесту; а очи му почињаху тамњети те не могаше видјети;

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli [was] laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, [that] he could not see;

И Самуило лежаше у дому Господњем гдје бијаше ковчег Божји, и жишци Господњи још не бјеху погашени.

And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God [was], and Samuel was laid down [to sleep];

И викну Господ Самуила, а он рече: ево ме.

That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here [am] I.

И притрча к Илију, и рече му: ево ме, што си ме звао? А он рече: нијесам те звао, иди лези. И он отиде и леже.

And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

А Господ опет викну Самуила, и Самуило уста, и отиде к Илију, и рече: ево ме, што си ме звао? А он рече: нијесам те звао, сине; иди лези.

And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

А Самуило још не познаваше Господа, и још му не бјеше јављена ријеч Господња.

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

Тада опет викну Господ Самуила трећи пут, и он уста и отиде к Илију, и рече: ево ме, што си ме звао? Тада разумје Илије да Господ зове дијете.

And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

И рече Илије Самуилу: иди лези; а ако те зовне, а ти реци: говори Господе, чује слуга твој. И Самуило отиде, и леже на своје мјесто.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

А Господ дође и стаде; и зовну као прије: Самуило! Самуило! А Самуило рече: говори, чује слуга твој.

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

И рече Господ Самуилу: ево учинићу нешто у Израиљу да ће зујати оба уха свакоме ко чује.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

У тај дан ћу учинити Илију све што сам говорио за кућу његову, од почетка до краја.

In that day I will perform against Eli all [things] which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

Јер сам му јавио да ћу судити дому његову довијека за неваљалство, за које је знао да њим навлаче на се проклетство синови његови, па им није забранио.

For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

Зато се заклех дому Илијеву да се неће очистити неваљалство дома Илијева никаквом жртвом ни приносом довијека.

And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

И Самуило спава до јутра, па отвори врата дома Господњега. Али се бојаше Самуило казати Илију за утвару.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

А Илије зовну Самуила и рече: Самуило, сине! А он рече: ево ме.

Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here [am] I.

А он рече: какве су ријечи што ти је казао? немој затајити од мене; тако ти учинио Бог и тако ти додао, ако затајиш од мене што год што ти је казао.

And he said, What [is] the thing that [the LORD] hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide [it] not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide [any] thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

И Самуило му каза све, и ништа не затаји од њега. А он рече: Господ је, нека чини што му је воља.

And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

А Самуило растијаше, и Господ бијаше с њим, и не пусти да падне на земљу ниједна ријеч његова.

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

И сав Израиљ од Дана до Вирсавеје позна да је Самуило вјеран пророк Господњи.

And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel [was] established [to be] a prophet of the LORD.

И Господ се стаде опет јављати у Силому, јер се Господ јављаше Самуилу у Силому ријечју Господњом.

And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
