Прва књига Самуилова (која се зове и Прва књига о царевима )

И бијаше ковчег Господњи у земљи Филистејској седам мјесеца.

And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

Тада дозваше Филистеји свештенике и враче, па им рекоше: шта ћемо чинити с ковчегом Господњим? научите нас како ћемо га послати натраг на његово мјесто.

And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.

А они рекоше: ако ћете натраг послати ковчег Бога Израиљева, не шаљите га празна, него уза њ подајте принос за гријех; тада ћете оздравити и дознаћете зашто се рука његова није одмакла од вас.

And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

А они рекоше: какав ћемо му дати принос за гријех? А они рекоше: према броју кнежевина Филистејских пет златнијех шуљева и пет златнијех мишева; јер је зло једнако на свјема вама и на кнезовима вашим.

Then said they, What [shall be] the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, [according to] the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague [was] on you all, and on your lords.

Начините дакле слике од својих шуљева и слике од мишева који кваре земљу, и подајте славу Богу Израиљеву. Може бити да ће улакшати руку своју над вама и над боговима вашим и над земљом вашом.

Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

И зашто бисте били упорна срца као што бијаху упорна срца Мисирци и Фараон? и пошто учини чудеса на њима, еда ли их тада не пустише, те отидоше?

Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

Зато начините једна кола нова, и узмите двије краве дојилице, на којима још није био јарам, па упрегните краве у кола, а телад њихову одведите од њих кући.

Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:

Па узмите ковчег Господњи и метните га на кола; а закладе златне што ћете му дати за гријех метните у ковчежић покрај њега, и пустите га нека иде.

And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him [for] a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

И гледајте: ако пође путем к међи својој у Вет-Семес, он нам је учинио ово велико зло; ако ли не пође тако, онда ћемо знати да нас се није дохватила рука његова, него нам се догодило случајно.

And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, [then] he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that [it is] not his hand [that] smote us: it [was] a chance [that] happened to us.

И учинише тако они људи; и узевши двије краве дојилице упрегоше их у кола, а телад њихову затворише код куће.

And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:

И метнуше ковчег Господњи на кола, и мали ковчежић с мишима златнијем и са сликама својих шуљева.

And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.

И пођоше краве право путем у Вет-Семес, и једнако иђаху истијем путем мучући и не сврћући ни надесно ни налијево; а кнезови Филистејски иђаху за њима до међе Вет-Семеске.

And the kine took the straight way to the way of Bethshemesh, [and] went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside [to] the right hand or [to] the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Bethshemesh.

А Вет-Семешани жњаху пшеницу у долини, и подигавши очи своје видјеше ковчег, и обрадоваше се видјевши га.

And [they of] Bethshemesh [were] reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see [it].

И дођоше кола на њиву Исуса Вет-Семешанина, и стадоше ондје. А бијаше ондје велик камен; и исцјепаше дрва од кола, и принесоше оне краве на жртву паљеницу Господу.

And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where [there was] a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.

А Левити снимивши ковчег Господњи и ковчежић што бјеше покрај њега, у којем бијаху заклади златни, метнуше на онај велики камен; а људи из Вет-Семеса готовише жртве паљенице и приносише жртве Господу онај дан.

And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that [was] with it, wherein the jewels of gold [were], and put [them] on the great stone: and the men of Bethshemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.

А то видјевши пет кнезова Филистејских вратише се у Акарон исти дан.

And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen [it], they returned to Ekron the same day.

А ово бјеху златни шуљеви које дадоше Филистеји Господу за гријех: за Азот један, за Газу један, за Аскалон један, за Гат један, за Акарон један.

And these [are] the golden emerods which the Philistines returned [for] a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

И миши златни бјеху према броју свијех градова Филистејских, у пет кнежевина, свијех зиданијех градова и села неограђенијех до великога камена, на који метнуше ковчег Господњи, и који је и данас у пољу Исуса Вет-Семешанина.

And the golden mice, [according to] the number of all the cities of the Philistines [belonging] to the five lords, [both] of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great [stone of] Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: [which stone remaineth] unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite.

Али поби Господ неке између Вет-Семешана који загледаше у ковчег Господњи, и поби из народа педесет тисућа и седамдесет људи. И плака народ што га Господ удари великом погибљу.

And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten [many] of the people with a great slaughter.

И људи из Вет-Семеса рекоше: ко може остати пред тијем Господом Богом светијем? и ка коме ће отићи од нас?

And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?

И послаше посланике к становницима Киријат-Јаримским говорећи: донесоше натраг Филистеји ковчег Господњи, ходите, однесите га к себи.

And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, [and] fetch it up to you.
