Приче Соломунове

Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Страх је царев као рика младога лава; ко га дражи, гријеши својој души.

The fear of a king [is] as the roaring of a lion: [whoso] provoketh him to anger sinneth [against] his own soul.

Слава је човјеку да се окани свађе; а ко је год безуман, уплеће се.

[It is] an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

Ради зиме љенивац не оре; проси о жетви, и ништа не добија.

The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; [therefore] shall he beg in harvest, and [have] nothing.

Савјет је у срцу човјечијем дубока вода, али човјек разуман црпе га.

Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

Највише људи хвали се својом добротом; али ко ће наћи човјека истинита?

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

Праведник једнако ходи у безазлености својој; благо синовима његовијем послије њега!

The just [man] walketh in his integrity: his children [are] blessed after him.

Цар сједећи на пријестолу судском расипа очима својим свако зло.

A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

Ко може рећи: очистио сам срце своје, чист сам од гријеха својега?

Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Двојак потег и двојака мјера, обоје је мрско Господу.

Divers weights, [and] divers measures, both of them [are] alike abomination to the LORD.

По дјелима својим познаје се и дијете хоће ли бити чисто и хоће ли бити право дјело његово.

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work [be] pure, and whether [it be] right.

Ухо које чује, и око које види, обоје је Господ начинио.

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

Не љуби сна, да не осиромашиш; отварај очи своје, и бићеш сит хљеба.

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Не ваља, не ваља, говори ко купује, а кад отиде онда се хвали.

[It is] naught, [it is] naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

Има злата и много бисера, али су мудре усне најдрагоцјенији накит.

There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge [are] a precious jewel.

Узми хаљину ономе који се подјемчи за туђина, узми залог од њега за туђинку.

Take his garment that is surety [for] a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

Сладак је човјеку хљеб од пријеваре, али му се послије напуне уста пијеска.

Bread of deceit [is] sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

Мисли се утврђују савјетом; зато разумно ратуј.

[Every] purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

Ко открива тајну, поступа невјерно; зато се не мијешај с онијем који разваљује уста.

He that goeth about [as] a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

Ко псује оца својега или матер своју, његов ће се жижак угасити у црном мраку.

Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Нашљедство које се из почетка брзо добија, не бива на пошљетку благословено.

An inheritance [may be] gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

Не говори: вратићу зло. Чекај Господа, и сачуваће те.

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; [but] wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Мрзак је Господу двојак потег, мјерила лажна нијесу добра.

Divers weights [are] an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance [is] not good.

Од Господа су кораци човјечји, а човјек како ће разумјети пут његов?

Man's goings [are] of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Замка је човјеку да прождре светињу, и послије завјета опет да тражи.

[It is] a snare to the man [who] devoureth [that which is] holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

Мудар цар расипа безбожнике и пушта на њих коло.

A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

Видјело је Господње душа човјечија, истражује све што је у срцу.

The spirit of man [is] the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Милост и истина чувају цара, и милошћу подупире свој пријесто.

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

Слава је младићима сила њихова, а старцима част сиједа коса.

The glory of young men [is] their strength: and the beauty of old men [is] the gray head.

Модрице од боја и ударци који продиру до срца јесу лијек зломе.

The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so [do] stripes the inward parts of the belly.
