И кад изиђоше срећно из лађе, тада разумјеше да се острво зове Мелит.

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

А дивљаци чињаху нам не малу љубав, јер наложише огањ и примише нас све због дажда који иђаше, и због зиме.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

А Павле зграбивши гомилу грања наложи на огањ, и изишавши змија од врућине скочи му на руку.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid [them] on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

And when the barbarians saw the [venomous] beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

А он отресавши змију у огањ не би му ништа зло.

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

А они чекаху да он отече или уједанпут да падне мртав. А кад задуго чекаше, и видјеше да му ништа зло не би, промијенише се, и говораху да је он Бог.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

А наоколо око онога мјеста бијаху села поглавара од острва по имену Поплија, који нас прими и угости љубазно три дана.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

А догоди се да отац Поплијев лежаше од грознице и од срдобоље, којему ушавши Павле помоли се Богу и метну руке своје на њ и исцијели га.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

А кад то би, долажаху и други који бијаху болесни на острву ономе, и исцјељиваху се.

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

И поштоваху нас великијем частима; и кад пођосмо, спремише нам што је од потребе.

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded [us] with such things as were necessary.

А послије три мјесеца одвезосмо се на лађи Александријској, која је била презимила на острву, и бијаху на њој написани Диоскури.

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

И допловивши у Сиракузу остасмо ондје три дана.

And landing at Syracuse, we tarried [there] three days.

А онанде отпловивши дођосмо у Ригију; и послије једнога дана кад дуну југ, дођосмо други дан у Потиоле.

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

Ондје нађемо браћу, и они нас замоле те останемо код њих седам дана; и тако пођосмо у Рим.

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

И оданде чувши браћа за нас изиђоше нам на сусрет тја до Апијева пазара и три крчме. И кад их видје Павле, даде хвалу Богу, и ослободи се.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

А кад дођосмо у Рим, капетан предаде сужње војводи. Али се Павлу допусти да живи гдје хоће с војником која га чуваше.

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

А послије три дана Павле сазва старјешине Јеврејске. И кад се они скупише, говораше им: људи браћо! ја ништа не учиних противно народу или обичајима отачкијем; и Јерусалимљани предаше ме као сужња у руке Римљанима,

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men [and] brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

Који извидјевши за мене шћаху да ме пусте, јер се не нађе на мени ниједна смртна кривица.

Who, when they had examined me, would have let [me] go, because there was no cause of death in me.

Али кад Јудејци говораху насупрот, натјера ме невоља да се иштем пред ћесара, не као да бих свој народ имао што тужити.

But when the Jews spake against [it], I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

Тога ради узрока замолих вас да се видимо и да се разговоримо; јер нада ради Израиљева окован сам у ово гвожђе.

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see [you], and to speak with [you]: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

А они му рекоше: ми нити примисмо писма за те из Јудеје; нити дође ко од браће да јави или да говори што зло за тебе.

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

Него молимо да чујемо од тебе шта мислиш; јер нам је познато за ову јерес да јој се свуда насупрот говори.

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

И одредивши му дан дођоше к њему у гостионицу многи; којима казиваше свједочећи царство Божије и увјеравајући их за Исуса из закона Мојсијева и из пророка од јутра до самога мрака.

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into [his] lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets, from morning till evening.

И једни вјероваху ономе што говораше а једни не вјероваху.

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

А будући несложни међу собом, одлажаху кад рече Павле једну ријеч: добро каза Дух свети преко пророка Исаије оцевима нашијем

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

Говорећи: иди к народу овоме и кажи: ушима ћете чути и нећете разумјети; и очима ћете гледати и нећете видјети.

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

Јер одрвени срце овога народа, и ушима тешки чују, и очима својијем зажмурише да како не виде очима, и ушима не чују, и да се не обрате да их исцијелим.

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Да вам је дакле на знање да се незнабошцима посла спасеније Божије, они ће и чути.

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and [that] they will hear it.

И кад он ово рече, отидоше Јевреји препирући се међу собом.

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

А Павле остаде пуне двије године о своме трошку, и дочекиваше све који му долажаху,

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

Проповиједајући царство Божије, и учећи о Господу нашему Исусу Христу слободно, и нико му не брањаше.

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
