Прва књига Самуилова (која се зове и Прва књига о царевима )

А Самуило рече Саулу: Господ ме је послао да те помажем за цара над народом његовијем, над Израиљем; слушај дакле ријечи Господње.

Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee [to be] king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

Овако вели Господ над војскама: опоменух се шта је учинио Амалик Израиљу, како му се опро на путу кад је ишао из Мисира.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember [that] which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

Зато иди, и побиј Амалика, и затри као проклето све што год има; не жали га, него побиј и људе и жене и дјецу и што је на сиси и волове и овце и камиле и магарце.

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Тада Саул сазва народ, и изброји их у Телаиму, и бјеше их двјеста тисућа пјешака и десет тисућа људи од Јуде.

And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

И дође Саул до града Амаличкога, и намјести засједу у потоку.

And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

И рече Саул Кенејима: идите, одвојте се, уклоните се од Амалика, да вас не бих потро с њима; јер сте ви учинили милост свијем синовима Израиљевијем кад су ишли из Мисира. И отидоше Кенеји од Амалика.

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

И Саул поби Амалике од Авиле до Сура, који је према Мисиру.

And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah [until] thou comest to Shur, that [is] over against Egypt.

И ухвати Агага цара Амаличкога жива, а сав народ његов поби оштријем мачем.

And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

И Саул и народ његов поштедје Агага и најбоље овце и најбоље волове и угојену стоку и јагањце и све што бијаше добро, и не хтјеше побити; него што бијаше зло и без цијене, оно само побише.

But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing [that was] vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

Зато дође ријеч Господња к Самуилу говорећи:

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

Кајем се што сам Саула поставио царем, јер је отступио од мене, и није извршио мојих ријечи. И расрди се Самуило врло, и викаше ка Господу сву ноћ.

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul [to be] king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

И уставши рано Самуило пође пред Саула. И јавише Самуилу говорећи: Саул дође у Кармил, и ено подиже себи споменик, па се врати оданде и отиде даље и сиђе у Галгал.

And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

Кад Самуило дође к Саулу, рече му Саул: благословен да си Господу! извршио сам ријеч Господњу.

And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed [be] thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

А Самуило рече: каква је то блека оваца у ушима мојим? и рика волова коју чујем?

And Samuel said, What [meaneth] then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

А Саул рече: од Амалика догнаше их; јер народ поштедје најбоље овце и најбоље волове да принесе на жртву Господу Богу твојему; остало пак побисмо као проклето.

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

А Самуило рече Саулу: стани да ти кажем што ми је рекао Господ ноћас. Рече му: говори.

Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

Тада рече Самуило: нијеси ли био мали сам у својим очима, пак си постао глава племенима Израиљевијем, и Господ те помаза за цара над Израиљем?

And Samuel said, When thou [wast] little in thine own sight, [wast] thou not [made] the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

И Господ те посла на овај пут и рече: иди, побиј грјешне Амалике, и војуј на њих докле их не истријебите.

And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

Зашто дакле не послуша гласа Господњега, него се наклопи на плијен, и учини зло пред Господом?

Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

А Саул одговори Самуилу: та послушао сам глас Господњи, и ишао сам путем којим ме посла Господ, и довео сам Агага цара Амаличкога, а Амалике сам истријебио.

And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Него народ узе од плијена овце и волове, најбоље између проклетијех ствари, да принесе на жртву Господу Богу твојему у Галгалу.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

Али Самуило рече: зар су миле Господу жртве паљенице и приноси као кад се слуша глас његов? гле, послушност је боља од жртве и покорност од претилине овнујске.

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.

Јер је непослушност као гријех од чарања, и непокорност као сујевјерство и идолопоклонство. Одбацио си ријеч Господњу, зато је и он тебе одбацио да не будеш више цар.

For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.

Тада рече Саул Самуилу: згријешио сам што сам преступио заповијест Господњу и твоје ријечи; јер побојах се народа и послушах глас његов.

And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Него сада опрости ми гријех мој, и врати се са мном да се поклоним Господу.

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

А Самуило рече Саулу: нећу се вратити с тобом, јер си одбацио ријеч Господњу, и зато је тебе Господ одбацио да не будеш више цар над Израиљем.

And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

И Самуило се окрете да иде, али га Саул ухвати за скут од плашта његова, те се одадрије.

And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

Тада му рече Самуило: одадро је Господ царство Израиљево од тебе данас, и дао га ближњему твојему, који је бољи од тебе.

And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, [that is] better than thou.

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he [is] not a man, that he should repent.

А он рече: згријешио сам; али ми сад учини част пред старјешинама народа мојега и пред Израиљем, и врати се са мном да се поклоним Господу Богу твојему.

Then he said, I have sinned: [yet] honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

И вративши се Самуило отиде за Саулом, и поклони се Саул Господу.

So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

Потом рече Самуило: доведите ми Агага цара Амаличкога. И дође к њему Агаг весео, јер говораше Агаг: заиста, прошла је горчина смртна.

Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

Али Самуило рече: како је твој мач учинио те су жене остале без дјеце, тако ће остати без дјеце твоја мајка међу женама. И исијече Самуило Агага пред Господом у Галгалу.

And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

Потом отиде Самуило у Раму, а Саул отиде кући својој у Гавају Саулову.

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

И Самуило више не видје Саула до своје смрти, и плакаше Самуило за Саулом, што се Господ покаја што је поставио Саула царем над Израиљем.

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
